Also keep in mind that dwarves, elves and halflings are quite different from their representation in other D&D worlds. Elves are likely to be seen as thieves and swindlers by the citizens of most cities, and halflings may be feared as savage cannibals.

Discouraged Races

  • Dray (Dragonborn): The dragonborn are known as defilers and amoral slave-traders, and shaking that perception would prove very difficult.
  • Tiefling: Tieflings were not part of the original Dark Sun setting. Like the dray, they are extremely rare, and feared and reviled to the point that normal interaction could be difficult. However, the new campaign lists a few tiefling NPCs, so I’ll allow them.

Allowed Classes

Because there are no gods, the Divine power source does not exist on Athas. Arcane magic is inherently destructive to the world, making the Arcane power source reviled by most people. Psionics have risen to prominence, and the Martial and Primal power sources can be found in abundance.
